BDO Sunghyun, Established ESG Center and Signed a Channel Partner Agreement with Edison Energy of th

BDO Sunghyun (CEO Yoon, Kil-bae) announced on October 15 that it established the ESG Center and entered into a channel partner agreement for services in Korea with Edison Energy (CEO Oded J. Rhone), a global comprehensive ESG solution provider.

Edison Energy, a subsidiary of Edison International with 130 years of tradition, is a global company that provides solutions and services for increasing energy use efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction to large corporations, industries, schools, and hospitals. Edison Energy's clients include 15 of Fortune 50. For its clients to achieve sustainability and ESG management goals, Edison Energy provides comprehensive services from the strategic establishment to energy portfolio improvement, supply chain management, science-based targets (SBT) for greenhouse gas reduction, key performance indicators (KPI) development, and execution.

BDO Sunghyun established the ESG Center (headed by Senior Director Jeong, Jong-cheol), comprising 20 internal and external experts. By taking the agreement concluded with Edison Energy as an opportunity, it will provide advisory and assurance services that meet international ESG evaluation standards. Through this, BDO Sunghyun will help domestic companies enter the global market, contribute to their export trade, provide solutions to implement Net-Zero and provide long-term advice.

The participants of the 'United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26),' which will be held in Glasgow, UK, in early November, would reportedly elevate their national greenhouse gas reduction targets by 2030 and discuss the standardization of ESG information disclosure criteria. In response, the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) will establish the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) to develop corporate ESG information disclosure standards. It is expected that the highest priority will be given to the response to climate change considering its seriousness. When the ISSB standards are announced, it is expected to pave the way to disclose greenhouse gas emission reductions based on scientific evidence.

CEO Yoon, Kil-bae said, "Governments and industries in each country are declaring carbon neutrality, sustainable management, and ESG management to achieve Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) by 2030, one after another." He added, "When the ESG information disclosure criteria are established, governments, as well as companies, will have to come up with a system that can calculate and evaluate greenhouse gas emission reduction information based on scientific evidence." He also expected, "With this agreement, BDO Sunghyun's ESG team will be able to provide professional services in the ESG management in Korea based on Edison Energy's experience and know-how."

BDO Sunghyun is planning seminars with academic circles, major economic groups, credit rating agencies, investor groups, and media organizations and will launch substantive services for sustainable management from December when Edison Energy completes expert training.
